The original Winchester rifle - the Winchester 1866 model - was famous for its robust construction and lever mechanism that allowed the rifleman to fire a certain number of rounds before having to reload: hence the term, 'repeating rifle'. Nelson King's new improved patent remedies the Henry rifle's shortcomings by incorporating a loading gate on the side of the frame and incorporating a sealed round magazine that was covered by a front stock. Originally chambered in the .44 Henry rimfire, the Model 1866 was nicknamed the "Yellow Boy" because of its "brass" receiver (actually a bronze alloy called gunmetal)
