Within the wide range of small arms, the C-96 has the honour of displaying the nickname 'classic', also known as the 'broomstick'. It was a semi-automatic pistol produced in Germany from 1896 to 1937, created by the ingenious Peter Paul Mauser. This semi-automatic pistol, with over a century of history, has an extremely functional and practical design that has led it to be recognised as one of the world's best weapons.
The German army received more than 100,000 units, which it used during the First World War, in which short-range fighting in the trenches abounded. Communist Russia purchased large quantities of the C-96, a weapon that ended up receiving the nickname 'Bolo-Mauser', i.e. the Mauser of the Bolsheviks. When the Second World War began in 1939, the C-96 was still active.
Although no country recognised it as a normative weapon, it was used in all military events that emerged in the first half of the 20th century.
